Musalia Mudavadi Updates Twitter Profile ‘Prime Cabinet Minister’ Ahead of Official Appointment

The Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi has updated his Twitter profile to read “The Prime Cabinet Minister” ahead of the official appointment after president-elect William Ruto is sworn into office.

His Twitter profile bio now reads, “Welcome to my official Twitter handle Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Designate of the Republic of Kenya and ANC Party Leader.”

Mudavadi, who doubles up as one of the top principles in Kenya Kwanza Alliance, had struck a deal with UDA leader and the Kenya Kwanza flag bearer, Ruto, for the position if the latter won the election.

Moreover, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Council Bureau held a meeting on 17 August, where the members unanimously nominated Mudavadi for the position.

However, Mudavadi’s new position and title will be ineffective until Ruto is sworn in as the president. Ruto won the election after garnering 50.4% of the votes. His win was, however, contested by his main competitor Raila Odinga, who garnered 48% of the votes, and four IEBC commissioners, who claimed that the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati had manipulated the results.

The credibility of Ruto’s win is set to be determined by the Supreme Court.

Mudavadi’s new position will be facilitated through an executive order since the Constitution of Kenya, promulgated in 2010, does capture the position.

The main function of a Prime Cabinet Secretary will be assisting the president and the deputy in managing and supervising state functions.
