Hefty Salaries Ruto and Gachagua will receive after Assuming office

From a Member of Parliament to Deputy President-elect, Rigathi Gachagua has meteorically climbed the proverbial ladder of success.

As things stand, he will occupy the Hustler’s mansion based in Karen, designated for the country’s second in command after he takes the oath of office.

Gachagua will be earning a gross salary of Ksh1,227,188, with salary market adjustments of Ksh190,875. He will also receive a house allowance of Ksh300,000, and an official vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3000cc.

This is according to the remuneration and benefits, review by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) for the financial year 2022/2023.

The DP-elect will get an annual medical cover alongside his spouse and children. This includes an inpatient cover worth Ksh10 million, outpatient worth Ksh300,000, maternity worth Ksh150,000, Ksh75,000 dental cover and optical worth Ksh75,000.

Further, Gachagua is set to earn a monthly pension equal to 80 percent of his monthly salary; according to the Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Act, 2015. The figure translates to an annual pension of Ksh11.8 million.

Once he retires, Gachagua will be provided with two saloon vehicles whose engine capacities will not exceed 2,000cc. The vehicles will be replaceable after every four years.

In addition, the DP-elect will be handed a one-four-wheel drive vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3,000 cc. Gachagua will also get a Ksh184,500 monthly fuel allowance while his family is entitled to full medical and hospital cover, catering for both overseas and local treatment.

Other retirement benefits include two housekeepers, two senior support staff, two drivers, a personal assistant, an accountant, two cooks, two gardeners, armed security guards upon request, diplomatic passports and maintenance expenses for his vehicles.

Gachagua will also be granted access to the VIP lounge II at all airports within Kenya.

In the case of his boss, President-elect William Ruto, he will receive a gross salary of Ksh1,443,750 and salary market adjustments of Ksh227,500. In addition, he will receive a house allowance of Ksh350,000 as well as other benefits entitled to state officers.
