“Hawataondolewa!” – Kalonzo vows to protect Cherera-led commissioners from being Kicked out

The four “rebel” IEBC commissioners would be defended by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance against any attempt to have them removed from office, according to Wiper leader Kalonzo Muysoka.

The Wiper leader, who was reading a statement from the Azimio coalition, criticized President William Ruto for his continuous efforts to remove the four from office in a statement on Saturday.

The commissioners, who were under the direction of vice chair Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya, had disassociated themselves from the presidential results, calling them murky.

Ruto and his allies were asked to leave the four alone by Kalonzo, though.

“We totally condemn this brazen act of witch hunt and demand that the President and his agents leave those officers alone. On our part we commit to do whatever it takes to protect those officers from any attempts in fringe their basic rights,” Kalonzo said.

The declaration was made in response to a petition to remove the commissioners from office that was submitted to the National Assembly by the Farmers party, a partner in the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“Farmers Party has presented to the National Assembly a petition for the removal of 4 commissioners of IEBC following the attempt by the said commissioners to sabotage an election process as witnessed on August 15, 2022 at Bomas of Kenya,” read the statement by the Farmers Party.

Once the petition is deliberated by the National Assembly, the petition will be presented to the President for appointment of a tribunal for the removal of the commissioners

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale had also stated that the four will face the law for their actions saying they will no go unpunished.

The four filed affidavits at the Supreme Court of Kenya asking the apex court to nullify the August 9, elections.
