Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua is grieving the loss of his father, who passed away at the age of 100.
Mutua described the loss as deeply painful but celebrated the remarkable legacy his father left behind.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Thursday, Mutua paid tribute to his father, whom he described as not only a parent but also a close friend.
“I have lost a great friend,” Mutua wrote on Facebook, alongside a cherished photo of the two of them.
“Such evenings will be no more, but in everything, we give thanks and cherish the fond memories. Go well, Dad.”
A Life of Resilience and Legacy
Mutua highlighted his father’s extraordinary journey, noting that few people live to celebrate a century.
He shared how his father’s life spanned monumental historical events, including the First and Second World Wars, and how he witnessed numerous famines and epidemics.
“Not many get the privilege of reaching 100 years and departing the world surrounded by their great, great-grandchildren,” Mutua said.
“Dad saw the First and the Second World War and has experienced virtually all the famines and epidemics in recorded history.”
Reflecting on his father’s passing, Ezekiel Mutua shared a poignant moment from the family’s gathering at the funeral home.
“As we went through the process at the funeral home last night, one lady family member was inconsolable,” he recounted.
“Then it dawned on me that she was Dad’s first granddaughter, who has grandchildren herself, and was the first to give my parents the pride of seeing their fourth generation. Dad’s departure is painful, but he has left such a rich legacy.”
Mutua drew solace from scripture, quoting Job 1:21: “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.”

Mourning a Family Patriarch
The passing of Mutua’s father comes just two years after the loss of his mother in February 2023.
At the time, Mutua revealed that his mother had passed away peacefully at her favorite spot on the verandah of her home after enjoying her breakfast.
Despite the sorrow of losing both parents, Mutua expressed gratitude for the time they shared and the indelible memories they created as a family.
“Dad’s legacy will continue to inspire us all,” Mutua said, emphasizing the impact his father had on the family and the generations he nurtured.
The family has yet to announce the funeral arrangements as they mourn the loss of their patriarch.
