DP Ruto Buys Gikomba Jacket at KSh 20k After Bargaining From 2K

William Ruto led the Kenya Kwanza Alliance for campaigning across Nairobi, including the Gikomba market, on Monday, July 18.

A female trader at the market gave Ruto a green, half jacket which he tried on and seemed to like.  Ruto then took the podium and thanked the trader who had given him the jacket. The trader told Ruto she would sell it to him, but he bargained before paying more than she quoted.

“Si mnaona vile amenifit. Hii nguo ni noma ama si noma? Sasa madam si tupige bei (See how she has dressed me. Is this jacket smart or not? Madam, let’s talk about price).”

The woman then offered to sell it to Ruto for KSh 2,000, but he tried to negotiate and claimed that she was trying to take advantage of him.

“Hapana KSh 2,000 ni nyingi bei ya jioni. Huyu madam anataka kuninyoa bila maji. Nimechanuka sana msinione hivi (KSh 2,000 is too much. This lady wants to rip me off, but I know the price, don’t underestimate me),” Ruto said.

Adding:

“Amenipigisha look huyu mrembo (this beautiful woman has made me look smart).”

For this reason, he offered to buy the jacket at KSh 20,000, instead of KSh 2,000.
