CS Kagwe: NHIF Payments To Be Deducted Directly From Your Mpesa

Many Kenyans are still not in a position to afford healthcare which is very worrying and thus the government had to step in and find a solution so that all Kenyans can be in a position to enjoy the same benefits as everyone else.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Mutahi Kagwe, has said that if a proposed law is passed, Kenyans will see deductions made from their mobile money cash on a daily basis.

According to media reports, Mutahi Kagwe says that Mobile Money Operators will be instructed to deduct the pay from people’s transactions on a daily basis.

CS Kagwe on National Health Insurance Fund Mandatory

“It is not mandatory, but it is mandatory for anybody who can afford it. There are many ways of knowing you can afford it. If you are banking Sh20,000 per day from selling mitumba in Gikomba that does not mean you cannot pay Sh17 every day. Why do you expect people to do a harambee for you when you get sick and you have a chance to pay Sh17 per day for your own and family health insurance? Surely, you can afford Sh17 per day.”

He says that this will be barely noticeable and it will go a long way in helping to fund the Universal Health Care program that will save millions of Kenyans lives.
