Local officials have warned couples who turned a tiny natural woodland in the Girango district of Migori County into a green resort.
On Saturday, the authorities conducted a crackdown in the forest under the direction of Suna-Oruba location Chief Charles Ouma. A number of lovebirds narrowly avoided their dragnet.
According to Ouma, homesteads contain a forest, and such immoral behavior reflects poorly on the entire neighborhood.
He claimed that they had observed adolescents and even married adults hiding out in the forest and engaging in lewd behavior.
The area chief said they will not allow people to turn the forest into a lodging, adding that whoever will be found in the forest will be arrested and charged in court.
Ouma said a similar behaviour used to happen at Kamarianga forest, but they managed to deal with the situation.
He said anyone found hiding in any of the forests in the region will be subjected to necessary action. He appealed to the members of the public to support the security officers in the crackdown.
