Lawyer Ahmednasir Now Wants Matiang’i To Be Arrested for Deleting His Twitter Account: “It’s Public Property”

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ought to be detained, according to Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, for deactivating his Twitter account.

Abdullahi pointed out that the CS’s Twitter account belonged to the government and contained information that belonged there.

According to the lawyer, deleting the account is a serious offense that could result in jail time or a fine.

“Twitter accounts operated by Cabinet Secretaries like Fred Matiang’i are public property and contain information that belongs to the office one holds. Deleting or deactivating such accounts without the express authority of government is a felony that results in a jail term or fine,” he said.

Matiangi shut off his Twitter page. On Tuesday, September 13, afternoon, the account, which had more than 1.3 million followers, went blank and was no longer accessible.

Since April 2013, Matiang’i had often utilized his official page to post Ministry statements.

This comes just after he wrote a letter of farewell to Kenyans, reflecting on his time serving the country’s former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

He declared that after accomplishing important milestones over the last five years, he was departing the Ministry of Interior with his head held high.

“As my tour of duty comes to an end. I am proud to know that we have not only honoured expectations but exceeded them by important and evident milestones.

Outgoing Interior CS deactivated his Twitter account. The account, which had over 1.3million followers, went blank on Tuesday afternoon and could no longer be accessed.

Netizens were visibly awestruck by the super CS’s decision, and many were quick to react to the phenomenon.
