Veteran Kiswahili radio presenter Alex Mwakideu celebrated his two-decade journey in the broadcasting industry with an elegant black-and-gold-themed party at the Sarit Centre’s Alloy Lounge on November 20, 2024.
Mwakideu, currently with Radio 47, reflected on his career milestones while hosting an event attended by industry icons like Jalang’o, Wilbroda, Mwende Macharia, Churchill, King Kaka, and Dr. Ofweneke.
Despite lacking formal journalism training, Mwakideu landed his first job by impressing during a spontaneous live broadcast.
He started as an actor and commercial performer, earning KSh 5,000 per month, before transitioning to radio.
His rise was marked by hard work and challenges, including intense disagreements with co-hosts like Jalang’o, whom he admitted was “difficult but confident.” Yet, he credited these struggles for shaping his career.
“Two decades is not a joke,” Mwakideu remarked, celebrating the rewarding yet tumultuous journey.
During the celebration, Mwakideu hinted at a possible future collaboration with Jalang’o, his former co-host, teasing fans with, “Tunaongea, so we might start something very soon.”
Reflecting on his strict work ethic and determination, Mwakideu said, “Sipendangi ujinga. The people I’ve worked with know we used to fight after almost every show, but it has paid off.”
As he celebrated 20 years in the industry, Mwakideu’s journey remains an inspiration, showcasing that talent, persistence, and resilience are keys to success.
