“He’s not flight risk” – DJ Brownskin finally freed on Sh100,000 cash bail

Michael Macharia Njiiri, also known as DJ Brownskin, who is accused of encouraging his wife’s suicide last year, has been freed on a Sh200,000 bond.

The pre-bail report, which Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina claimed was in his favor, was taken into consideration, he said on Monday.

“I have considered the report before me which favours the accused as he is not a flight risk if released. I grant him a bond of Sh200,000 or a cash bail of Sh100,000,” the magistrate ruled.

Onyina commanded that the case be brought up for discussion on June 22.

Brownskin was held last week after the prosecution claimed his pre-bail report was incomplete.

The same judge denied DJ Brownskin’s request to summon DCIO Kasarani to court for contempt, rejecting his application.

The DJ had asked that DCIO Kasarani Jimmy Kimaru, who had been brought before a Makadara court last week for violating court orders, be ordered to appear in court through his attorney Duncan Okatch.

However, the court stated in a decision by Onyina that it cannot prove any act of contempt because the allegedly disobeyed court orders were given by Makadara Law Courts, which has equal jurisdiction.

“I do agree with the prosecution that indeed the file before this court does not have any contempt. I, therefore, direct the defense counsel to move Makadara Law Courts with the application to summon the DCIO if it deems fit,” ruled the Court.

The DJ has denied the charges of aiding the suicide of his wife Sharon Njeri Mwangi on July 29, 2022.

He faced a second count of failing to use all reasonable force to prevent his wife from committing su*cide although he had knowledge that she was planning to take her own life.
