Njugush Opens Up On How He Was Attacked By Armed Robbers In Nairobi

A few months ago, Comedian Timothy Kimani, popularly known as Njugush opened up on how a gang of armed highway robbers waylaid his vehicle along University Way on Thursday night before robbing him of valuables.

In a series of Instagram posts on Friday, the comedian, who has since reported the incident to Nairobi’s Central Police Station, narrated the terrifying experience which he says occurred as he headed home from work at around midnight.

Njugush says he encountered a middle-aged woman limping on the road which prompted him to slow down.

A quick conversation with the woman, through the vehicle’s window, made Njugush realise that she had imbibed on a few drinks prior to their chance encounter.

“She smells [alcohol] but I guess ni stress so I teremsha kioo kidogo. She says she has kids who’ve not eaten for days,” wrote Njugush on Instagram.

“She looks beat and she told me she fends for herself because of an accident She tells me hataki pesa kama niko na food iko kwa gari nimpatie.”

At this point, the woman had grabbed Njugush’s attention, and after a few minutes of conversing she convinced the comedian to open his car’s doors for her.

“I’m like I have kids and I think I’m convinced but just to see how maybe I can come through, I open the door,” he said.

Njugush’s good hearted nature and intentions would prove costly as two unknown men then board his vehicle immediately after he opened the doors; men he does not remember seeing on the road when he stopped.

One of the assailants sat in the passenger’s seat alongside their female accomplice while the other occupied the co-driver’s seat.

Njugush was ordered to remain silent and cooperate lest the woman start screaming and accuse him of rape.

“Ghafla been fu, 2 guys came in from my co-drivers side and that’s when I knew it has bitten each other. The lady says ukiitana nitapiga nduru niseme unataka kunirape,” recalled Njugush.

“By the time najaribu kufikiria cinema kali nishawahi watch kisu ilikuwa kwa kahasho from my newly found co-driver.”

What irked Njugush the most was that the assailants positively identified him as a celebrity, going as far as celebrating their would-be score right in his face.

“Sasa guys at this point nikajua baas, so the co-driver goes like “ala Njugush, leo tutacheka. They say they won’t be hard on me but their kids lazima wakule,” said the comedian.

Njugush quickly handed over his phone to the robbers but they wanted more valuables.

A witty remark made by Njugush on how the robbers could sell a few theatre costumes in his vehicle in order to raise the additional cash was met with blows.

The thieves instead insisted that the comedian hands over his M-Pesa Pin.

“Kwanza simu nikapeana, then nikawaambia labda wabebe costumes zilikuwa kwa gari, nikaekelewa kofi ile ya bladfwakni, so chap chap nikaitishwa M-Pesa Pin,” he said.

“By this time they are talking profanities. Nikawaambia niko tu na that mbili, they laughed as the lady huko nyuma anatransfer hio pesa, wakasema ‘kumbe ata wasanii kimewaumania, simkuje tupige job huku.”

All this time, Njugush had been ordered to drive around Nairobi in circles, during which he attempted to signal other motorists he encountered by flashing his car’s hazard lights but his efforts went unnoticed.

“They told me where to stop [and] the two jamaas alighted first, mrembo as she tried to alight, I saw the phone on her right hand. The engine was running and I tried grabbing my phone from her hand and it fell hapo chini back left,” he said.

Njugush sped off to Central Police Station when the two men began making their way back to his vehicle.

“I knew that was my queue to speed as the guys walikua wameanza kurudi and off I left straight to Central. Be on the lookout watuz opening the door is where I did it. Glad they didn’t harm me, wacha watoto wakakunywe maziwa lakini now I know better,” he said.

“Lakini kukaribishwa Nairobi nayo nimekaribishwa mara kadhaa.”
