Mombasa: Tears as boy who went missing, found dead with eyes gouged out

Ibrahim Katana, who went missing on Friday, April 7, was found dead with his body disfigured, leaving his Mombasa family in search of explanations.

Sabu Lewa, Katana’s mother, described how her son left their Mikindani house to go play with friends but never came back.

“They had puppies with them when they left. However, my son did not come back home that day. It was unlike him because he never stayed out late, and when he did not return, I suspected something was amiss. We searched for him for two consecutive days, but we were unsuccessful,” said Lewa, as reported by Daily Nation.

The body of the 15-year-old Grade Seven pupil at Port Reitz Junior Secondary School was found at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CPGH) mortuary with his hands tied.

The mother narrated that she was called by police that two bodies had been found and one of them matched the description of her son.

When she reached Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, she was shocked to find her son dead.

“I went to Mikindani Police Station, where the security officers directed me to the CPGH mortuary. I was shocked when I found out my son was the one the officers had retrieved from Mikindani Beach,” the mother stated.

The tearful mother disclosed that her son’s body had its hands tied with a rope, eyes gouged out and deep cuts on the neck.

“When Katana left home, he had shorts on, but when we viewed the body, he only had on his underwear and no shoes,” she added.
