Ngoiri’s friends and former colleagues took to social media to congratulate her on her new appointment.

“Congratulations on your appointment to the HIV and AIDS Tribunal. You have always put others before yourself and I know you will excel,” Trevor Ombija of Citizen TV noted.

The HIV and AIDS Tribunal was established in 2006 under Section 25 of the HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Act.

Its mandate, according to the Act, is to adjudicate cases relating to violations of HIV-related human rights. The Tribunal sits to consider cases of discrimination and injustices meted on persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Ngorii quit her job at NTV in 2021 after her long stint at the Nation Media Group-owned station. In her statement, the journalist noted that she resigned for “personal reasons” and that she would reveal her next move in her career.

The former journalist had earned prominence in the media field largely from her time as an eloquent Swahili anchor on NTV Jioni.

She used to anchor the seven o’clock bulletin alongside former NTV anchor, Nimrod Taabu, and later on with Salim Swaleh.

Besides her anchoring role, Ngoiri was also known for her occasional human interest pieces which highlighted various challenges affecting Kenya’s society.

Her prominence in the newsroom earned her nationwide recognition and she was eventually awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) honour, which is usually reserved for notable civilians who stand out in their line of duty.
