Taking to his account, the lawyer said he has no intention of paying for Twitter’s subscription service.

“It is HARAM to pay $8 dollars a month to the richest man in the world Elon Musk when the same can feed a family in Kenya for a week. I WILL NOT PAY IT!!!,” Ahmednasir Abdullahi tweeted.

On Thursday, April 20, Twitter finalized the legacy programme Twitter Blue, removing all blue checkmarks.

This saw the majority of Twitter users, including prominent leaders and personalities, media stations lose their blue checkmarks.

The legacy programme was brought about through changes instituted by the company’s new boss Elon Musk in November 2022.

Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk instituted changes to Twitter Blue verification in November 2022 after acquiring the social media platform for KSh 5.1 trillion.

He immediately began to set measures to increase the company’s revenue.

Twitter users who want to enjoy additional features and verification will have to pay a monthly subscription fee of Sh972 ($8) to acquire Twitter Blue.

The verification badge in the shape of a blue checkmark is used to distinguish businesses, government officials, and celebrities.

Elon Musk said subscribers to pay KSh 1,000 per month for Twitter Blue.

The company announced on March 23 that all users must enlist in the service to keep the symbol on their profile.

“Starting April 1, we’ll be winding down our legacy Verification program, and accounts that were verified under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain a blue checkmark unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue,” explains a statement on the platform’s online help center.
