US offers Sh233 million reward for arrest of two Kenyan suspects

For information leading to the arrest and perhaps conviction of two Kenyan fugitives, Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh and Abdi Hussein Ahmed, the US government has announced prizes of up to $1 million (Sh116 million) apiece.

The two fugitives, according to the US Embassy in Nairobi, are major violators of US drugs and wildlife trafficking laws. A total of Sh233 million is up for grabs if they are apprehended.

The accused are wanted for allegedly being part of an international organized criminal network that transported wildlife from Africa and attempted to traffic illicit substances into the United States.

Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh and Abdi Hussein Ahmed are accused of conspiring to smuggle at least 190 kg of rhinoceros horns and at least 10 tons of elephant ivory worth more than $7 million (Sh816 million).

A conspiracy to distribute roughly 10 kg of heroin is also alleged in the indictment.

“Eradicating drug and wildlife trafficking are priorities of the Biden Administration. We are grateful for the continued partnership of the Government of Kenya to capture and arrest members of these criminal networks” said Eric W. Kneedler, the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Nairobi.

The US State Department’s Fish and Wildlife Service and the US Drug Enforcement Administration have announced a Sh233 million prize.

Kenyans with information that could lead to the arrest of the two fugitives should contact the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at +254 (0) 800722203 or the US authorities at +1-844-397-8477.
