President Uhuru gifts Sh50 million to mitumba trader to expand business

The government would give Dada Processing Zone Limited Sh50 million to boost its operations, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During his working visit to Kisumu County, President Kenyatta stated that the company would receive funding through the small and medium-sized enterprise program.

Benter Mwalo, a former mitumba dealer who became an entrepreneur, built Dada Processing Zone, and President Kenyatta was thrilled by his success.

“I am impressed by this project that will change the lives of residents and the government we will support it by the huge contribution of Sh50 million,” he said.

Additionally, President Kenyatta disclosed that they had first come into contact when he persuaded her to switch from trading in mitumba to producing clothing a few years prior.

“She was among a group of people I was trying to persuade them that, as a country, we should move from this business of mitumba to manufacturing, and we did not castigate the business. Many did not understand the point I was trying to drive, but this young lady did. Last night I had the opportunity to open a facility she has developed here in Kisumu,” Uhuru said.

According to a government announcement made by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Dada Processing Zone Limited would receive Sh50 to boost its operations.

After extending operations, the company intends to boost its workforce from 150 to roughly 3,000.

On Tuesday, President Kenyatta also declared that the government will provide Sh500 million to restart Nzoia Sugar Company’s operations as a bailout.

He gave Peter Munya, the secretary of the cabinet for agriculture, instructions to make sure that the Sh450 million owing to farmers is deposited to their bank accounts and that the Sh50 million owed to factory workers be paid by this Friday.

He emphasized that even though the Nzoia Sugar Factory had previously received close to Sh1.2 billion in funding, the investment was worthless because the money was not put to its intended use.

“Managing Director Crispin Omondi has promised that by Sunday the factory will again start its operations,” President Kenyatta noted.

The President also urged Kenyans not to be duped by slick-talking politicians who do not have their nation’s best interests at heart.
