Azimio MCAs in Nairobi Walk Out of Sakaja’s Swearing-in Event

A group of Azimio MCAs of the Nairobi County Assembly opted to walk out of Nairobi Governor-elect Johnson Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony at the KCIC.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, one of the MCAs who left the ceremony, talked to TUKO news.

Alai, who was elected under the ODM ticket, explained that they decided to leave after they found out that seats had not been reserved for them.

He said, “We were invited to attend Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony and so we attended, but there were no seats for us. So, we have been forced to leave.”

He went on to liken the situation to a scenario of having the president being sworn in without having seats.

“Imagine swearing in the President without the MPs getting seats,” he told TUKO.

Nonetheless, Alai assured the public that the Azimio MCAs would support Sakaja’s leadership.

Sakaja was elected under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and experts had predicted that he would have a challenging time because the Azimio party dominated the Nairobi County Assembly with over 25 MCAs out of the total 45 MCA seats.

In his speech, Sakaja expressed that he was willing to work with all Nairobi elected leaders regardless of their political affiliation.

Also in attendance at Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony were president-elect William Ruto and outgoing governor Ann Kananu.

Ruto congratulated Sakaja and wished him the best. He also advised all governors to closely with the national government to spearhead developments in Kenya. He further congratulated the seven women governors.
