Actress Jackie Matubia opens up on her bitter divorce

In 2019, Kennedy Njogu and Jackie Matubia filed for divorce.

The mother of two has now disclosed that she had to pay her first husband over Ksh 300K in order to obtain a divorce.

Before divorcing in March 2019, the couple began dating in 2014 and were blessed with a daughter in 2015.

In an interview with Elizabeth Ngigi of Nairobi News, the actress revealed this, stating:

From May 2013 to February 2018, she served as the CS for Foreign Affairs, and from February 2018 to March 2019, she was the CS for Education.

Amina has held positions as assistant secretary-general and deputy executive director of the United Nations Environment, as well as chairlady of the General Councils of the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization.

“I used roughly Sh300,000 for the process; that would change depending on your case. If you guys have assets together, a problem with child support. There is just a lot.

There are a lot of hearings and so on. Mine was even traumatising because it was during the Covid-19 period, so your case is mentioned, you can’t go to court, you do online, then it’s canceled. That trauma really got to me,” Matubia is quoted.

The actress is reluctant to consider another white wedding and said, “As someone who has been married before and gone through the scare of going through the divorce process, divorce in Kenya is not easy, and there is a lot of back and forth. You get scared of being married, getting that certificate,” she shared.

Her divorce left her so scarred that she said she would even prefer to live with someone for an extended period before doing another white wedding.

“Don’t be in a hurry, and if you can, just be open about it. I was open from day one even before the engagement. I was not sure I would go down that road of a church wedding.

If someone is engaged for 10 years and not married yet, people should understand that some people are scared. I would even stay with the person in the house for over 15 years before I decide to do a wedding.”

Matubia is a mother of two girls with two different dads.
