Celebrating Neema Sulubu: What You Need to Know About the Zora Actress

You loved her in Zora and Aziza, drama series featured on Citizen TV. Coast-born actress Neema Sulubu always falls for the role of a young girl with a lot of “Udaku.”

In the recently concluded Zora series, she played Neema, a house-help in a rich household who knows about everything going on because of her “udaku” skills.

She executes her “udaku” role perfectly; you would think she behaves like that in real life. Away from her acting, there is more about Neema probably did not know.

Mkenya Leo took a mile to compile the following profile of the talented actress.

Neema Sulubu’s Origin

Her deep coastal accent, especially when she speaks in Swahili, will automatically tell you she is from the coast. Even though the damsel has never revealed which part of the coast she is from, reliable sources claim she is from Kwale County.

Neema Sulubu’s Age

Neema is in her late twenties, even though she looks like she is in her teens because of her height.

Neema Sulubu’s Family

Neema comes from a family of seven, six girls and one boy. She occasionally shares photos of her family on her social media pages.

In 2020, Neema went online to announce the death of her 76-years-old father. She mourned her father as her best friend who encouraged her to pursue her acting and journalism careers.

Neema is yet to reveal about her dating life, but we hope she does soon.

Neema Sulubu’s Education

Neema completed all her education in the Coast region. She went to Ngala Memorial Secondary School in Watamu, Malindi, for her secondary education. She discovered her passion for acting while studying at Ngala Memorial.

She then went to Mombasa Aviation College for her tertiary education to pursue Journalism and Mass Communication.

Neema Sulubu’s Journalism Career

Many of Neema’s fans do not know that she is an established journalist specialized in radio. She is a presenter at Baraka FM, one of the leading radio stations in the coast region. She joined Baraka FM in 2013 as an intern like other great journalists we have in Kenya. She has risen through the ranks, thanks to her skill, discipline, and hard work.

Neema Sulubu’s Acting Career

Neema’s acting career flourished when she started working for Citizen TV power couple, Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdallah. Lulu and Rashid first cast her in Moyo as Rukia. After Moyo, Neema acted in Aziza starring Sanaipei Tande as Aziza. In Aziza, Neema acted as Binti, Aziza’s talkative friend.

Lastly, she acted in Zora which aired from Monday to Friday in Citizen. While her roles are about a girl with a lot of “udaku”, Neema insists that she is a quiet person.

Community Work

Neema is passionate about issues concerning her community.

She is a member of SAFE Pwani, a program comprised of actors who use their talent to create awareness of the issues affecting the coastal region such as radicalization, drug abuse, and HIV/AIDS. The actors perform mostly on the streets to reach many people who cannot afford to pay for theaters.

Neema Sulubu’s Awards and Recognition

Neema has achieved numerous awards since she started acting in secondary school. In 2007, she scooped the Adjudicators Award for a play she had featured.

She won the best actress award in the 2008 Kenyan National Drama Festivals held in Nakuru. Her recent award was in 2018 when she was recognized as the best actress at the Kenya Coast Music Awards
