Ex-Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua explains why he was admitted to Mathare Hospital

Kimani Mbugua, a media figure, claims he was never fired from Citizen TV.

The outspoken young man indicated that he resigned because he no longer felt at ease in the spotlight.

Mbugua narrated during an interview with Lily Mwangi on Chat with Lily.

“My first job was at Nation FM in 2015. I got into Citizen TV by accident. They had a morning show hosted by Patrick Igunza, it was a traffic update show.

One day they did not have someone to host the show he did it for only 1 day. The next day they didn’t have someone to host so my editor called me to do it. I became the host of the traffic segment.”

Mbugua was given another chance to host a different show, which he enthusiastically accepted.

“At some point, Citizen TV was relaunching the entire programming. There was a show being hosted by Jacque Maribe and Waihiga Mwaura, They asked me if I was willing to do the show dubbed ‘Broken News.’

I agreed and that is how I started becoming known.”

Mbugua further added, “I was never fired from Citizen TV. I handed in my resignation after leaving the hospital, so it took them 3/4 months before they accepted it. They even gave me a certificate of service for appreciating the work I did. If you want me to show it to you I can.”

Mental illnes

Kimani Mbugua’s life took a turn two years ago when he began to struggle with mental illness.

He describes how one of his relationships ended in the worst way possible.

“ It was a tough relationship, we were both at different spaces in our lives. I think we were at a point where we couldn’t be able to fulfil each other’s needs in the way that we wanted.

I felt unfulfilled. I wasn’t getting the satisfaction I wanted from the relationship and therefore started cheating. My then-girlfriend found out, it was explosive. I ended up in a situation when I was trying to mend relationships with two people. This led me to the worst break-up ever,” he said in the Kimani Mbugua podcast.

As a result of the breakup, he became agnostic, which led to his online attack on the SDA church and choice to become an atheist.

Kimani met another female in December 2019 and proposed to her in February 2020.

“It was a hurried decision. She had a medical condition. I talked to her dad and planned to have her on my insurance officially. On one fine day in February, I drove home and I decided to smoke Marijuana… I do not know where the idea came from.”

What Kimani Mbugua describes as “the most traumatic event of his entire life” started after he smoked weed.

The journalist Kimani Mbugua tells the story of how he became addicted to drugs in his podcast.

“I saw a woman who was like a goddess who came to have sex with me. She started calling my name.”

Being admitted to Mathare hospital

Kimani went crazy as a result of his drug addiction and was admitted to Mathare Hospital. Since 2020, he has been admitted to the Mathare Mental Hospital thrice.

Kimani advises people against using drugs.

Kimani Mbugua quit his position at Kenyans 8 months ago, and that was the end of his major media farce.
