Gov’t to invest in fertiliser manufacturing, President William Ruto announces

William Ruto, the president, has pledged to keep helping farmers achieve increased food output.

To increase fertiliser output in the area, Ruto stated that his government would collaborate with the East Africa Community (EAC) members.

On Thursday, October 20, Ruto indicated this would be a part of the medium-term solution when speaking at the 59th Mashujaa celebration.

“We have to increase agricultural productivity as a fast step. My government plans to have fertiliser manufactured in partnership with EAC countries in the region,” said Ruto.

As a temporary fix, Ruto promised to keep helping farmers get fertilizers at a reasonable price.

The head of state also promised to provide farmers with high-quality agricultural inputs, including seeds and pesticides, among others.

“We will ensure our farmers have access to extension services in order to improve their farming skills. In the short term, we will continue with fertiliser import and subsidy programme,” he said.

The president also stated that in order to scale up high-quality seed production, the government will collaborate closely with regional research organizations and private parties.
