A police officer in Kisumu County was arrested on Thursday, January 2, after being accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl who had been held at a station he was attached to following her mother’s request to have her detained for defying her orders not to attend a kesha (night vigil).
As reported by NTV, the girl’s mother called upon the police officer to lock in the teenager daughter after she went against her orders not to attend the kesha on Tuesday, December 31.
“I called the police officer by the name Kipsang to come to pick the girl and lock her up after she went against my orders.”
“The officer came for the girl and locked her up as agreed not knowing that he had another intention to harm her,” remarked the girl’s mother.
The following morning, she says she came to the shocking realisation that her decision inadvertently led to the defilement of her daughter with the police officer being nowhere to be found.
“The police officer called and told me to get my daughter because she was innocent and had no charges to answer.”
“When I got to her, she informed me that the officer had raped her four times at his house during the night,” narrated the daughter’s mother.
After the daughter’s claims, the mother called for a medical test at the Jaramogi Odinga Hospital where the officer would resurface accompanying his seniors.
“When he arrived at the hospital, I immediately identified him and screamed to alert the other officers and the hospital management.”
“The officer was later arrested and taken to the Kondele Police Station awaiting trial on charges of rape,” added the mother.
Confirming the incident, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital Head of Medical Services Peter Okoth indicated that tests done on the girl confirmed that she had been defiled.
