Who Founded Muthokinju? Meet Benjamin Njuguna, the Brains Behind The Popular Paints Brand

Muthokinju paints and cement is a Kenyan based company which was established as a building materials supplier with an intention to go regional and eventually cover the whole of Africa.

The firm has been in existence for 25 years and deals with numerous products such as cement, paints, building steel, roofing sheets, adhesives and decorating sundries.

“We are wholesalers of cement, paints, building steel, roofing sheets, adhesives and decorating sundries. Its decorative range consists of products that are used within all residential houses, factories, office and public building for the purpose of decoration and protection.

So, who is the owner of Muthokinju paints?

The name Muthokinju was basically fored from the names of the founders.

Their entry into the construction business was majorly inspired by Susan as she had gathered some experience from running a restaurant in Kenyatta Market.

Both Njuguna and Susan did not want to go back into the restaurant business since they believed selling perishable goods would be hard for them.

Therefore, they opted to run a hardware business.

Over the years, Muthokinju Paints has undergone tremendous growth and currently has 14 stores and over 150 employees.

The founders have passed the business over to Benjamin their son, who is the Managing director, and his wife, Sarafina Njatha who is the Operations Director.

Muthokinju’s growth is also attributed to innovation which has helped the business to improve its processes and services. All their stores have an interior designer who provides advisory services to customers.

This allows the customers to understand how they can match colors appropriately.

The branches are also connected and computerized to ensure they are monitored from the head office.

For paints, Muthokinju has partnered with companies such as Plascon, Crown Paints, and Duracoat.

And for cement, they have partnered with Rhino, Mombasa Cement, East Africa Portland, Savannah Cement, Bamburi Cement National Cement.

Muthokinju’s legacy is to be the leading provider of affordable building materials.
