“They don’t listen”: Foreign Affairs PS Kamau Blames Kenyans Suffering in Saudia Arabia

A few days after the plight of Diana Chepkemoi went viral following the mistreatment and enslavement in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau has reacted to the reports.

According to him, Chepkemoi had been rescued and plans to bring her home are underway.

“This matter was taken up by our ambassador in Saudi Arabia and the lady is now in safe hands,” Macharia tweeted.

However, a Twitter user going by the name Lizzie Mutuma asked Kamau how long Kenyan ladies would have to endure torture in the Middle East.

“But for your long will our sisters continue being enslaved in the middle east? Does it have to always get here for Govt to intervene? How many lives have been lost in the past? Still, these rogue agencies that send these young girls out there exist? What is being done?” posed Mutuma.

The Ambassador replied saying that the Kenyans suffering in Saudi Arabia are to blame.

He claimed that although the ministry has given several warnings against visiting the nation, the women do not heed them.

“Please. We have told Kenyans repeatedly to stop sending this category of workers to Saudi. You have chosen not to listen,” said Kamau.
