Radio Africa shuts down Kiss TV after 14 years of operations

Little over a year after its inauguration, Radio Africa-owned Kiss TV announced its closure.

Kiss TV’s failure to be able to make money was mentioned as the primary reason for its closure when it was resurrected in 2022.

Martin Khafafa, Chief Operations Officer of Radio Africa Group, congratulated the station’s workers in a statement for their contributions to the brand’s expansion.

“As you may be aware our department has been unable to generate revenue despite the effort of everyone involved to turn the station around.

“Consequently, we will be shutting down the station today 17th March. All affected staff will be duly informed on the handover process by the HR team,” Khafafa said.

In a colorful ceremony in May 2021, Kiss TV debuted with a lineup of shows featuring top performers, the majority of whom have now left.

At the relaunch, other actors were introduced, including Joe Saina, Charlie Karumi, Lotan, Quellie Odero, Kym Nickdee, and Kamene Goro.

Charlie Karumi left the station in 2022 to move to Canada, but Kamene Goro left the station at the beginning of this year.

The CEO of Radio Africa, Patrick Quarcoo, informed staff members through internal letter in December 2022 that a number of employees would be made redundant.

In 2013, the TV station sacked 27 employees as a cost-cutting measure.

At the time, CEO Patrick Quarcoo said the station had been making a Sh10 million loss every month since March of that year.
