“Useless Burukenge” – Sauti Sol’s Bien slams Eric Omondi for criticizing Kenyan musicians
Sauti Sol band member Bien-Aime Baraza has hit out at comedian Eric Omondi over his latest remarks on the Kenyan music industry.
Taking to his Instagram, the comedian slammed Kenyan artistes accusing them of sleeping on their talent.
“So top 89 songs on Kenyan Apple music are Nigerian, 9 are American and only 2 are Kenyan. When I tell to shut up and listen when I talk, you think it is a joke. You will stay in that position until the day you listen to me. Wake up!,” Eric lashed out at musicians.
However, this did not sit well Sauti Sol’s Bien who angrily responded to Eric, telling him to focus on the dying comedy.
“Because where is your Netflix comedy special. Or whatever metric they use to measure success in comedy. You take out your steam on music while comedy is on its death bed. Useless burukenge!” Bien responded.
This is not the first time the two artists are engaging in an online spat.
Few months ago while Appearing on Jalang’o TV, Eric slammed Kenyan artistes accusing them of sleeping on their talent.
“The Kenyan entertainment scene is dead! We have lost our glory. We have become a cemetery! It is an utter disgrace that our musicians have become mere curtain raisers for international acts. We have become clowns in our own land. Today I saw Joe Muchiri heading down to Nanyuki for the monthly Amapiano tour. Guys, we have a f#cking monthly South African themed music festival in our country! We have lost our glory… Where are the Kenyan concerts? We have become redundant, predictable and boring. We need to put in the work, to reclaim our glory we have to invest in our art,” he said.
In his response, Bien told off Eric reprimanding him over his stunts to remain relevant.
“Eric Omondi is the buttcrack of comedy. What he does in the name of entertainment and comedy is shambolic. It is not good marketing either. It is Clout chasing deadbeat clowning. That is not art. Our industry is in transition. We just got our groove back after a pandemic,” he wrote.
Bien’s colleague, Savara Mudigi also joined the conversation equally slamming the comic over his publicity stunts.
“I wonder why we give people like Eric Omondi attention. Someone who does anything to trend in the name of comedy. Sasa ona mmempatia attention tena… The music scene is starting to thrive. F*ck your negativity,” he tweeted.
The comments irked Eric who fired back urging artistes to accept and work towards making music.
“It is extremely saddening that no one is listening to my very valid point. Instead these musicians keep defending themselves and insulting me. Now Bien-Aime and Savara are insulting me. The first step to solving any problem is accepting there is one and surely our music industry has not been the same. My message is we lost something and my point is together we can find it and bring it back. Sautisol, Khaligraph Jones and Bahati you are our only hope but truth be told, since you married things have not been the same,” Eric wrote.
