Police have launched investigations into the brutal killing of a male patient inside a ward at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), an incident that has raised serious security concerns at the country’s largest referral hospital.
The patient was discovered dead in his hospital bed with his throat slit in what appears to be a targeted attack. Witnesses reported that an unidentified intruder entered the ward in the early hours of Friday, February 7, and carried out the gruesome murder before fleeing the scene.
Authorities who visited the scene confirmed that the attacker was an outsider who somehow managed to gain access to the hospital.
Investigators were further alarmed to discover that the hospital’s CCTV cameras were not operational at the time of the incident. The malfunction reportedly went unnoticed for nearly four days, complicating efforts to identify the assailant.
In response, KNH issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy and confirming that an internal probe has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the security lapse and the murder.
The attack has sent shockwaves among patients and their families, who are now questioning the hospital’s ability to provide a safe environment for those under its care.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that efforts to enhance security at the facility are being prioritized.
