The National Police Service (NPS) has launched an investigation into a violent incident where Rigathi Gachagua was attacked during the funeral of Erastus Nduati at Bibirioni Boys High School in Limuru on November 28, 2024.
During the event, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, chaos broke out as unidentified individuals began throwing chairs and other objects while former Limuru MP Peter Mungai Mwathi was addressing mourners.
The disturbance forced attendees to flee in panic.
In a statement released on November 29, NPS spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango confirmed that Mwathi was not arrested or considered a person of interest in the incident.
“We wish to clarify that the National Police Service did not arrest Hon. Peter Mwathi, and he is not a person of interest to the Police,” she stated, dispelling rumors that linked him to the fracas.
Despite the mayhem, the police received only one complaint about property damage, although the exact value and extent of the damage remain unclear.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Limuru has initiated a probe into the incident, working to identify and apprehend those responsible for disrupting the solemn event.
