Former Youth and Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has received another state appointment under President William Ruto’s administration.
According to a Gazette notice, Echesa has been named the new chairperson of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health.
His term begins on November 29, 2024, and will run until May 18, 2026.
The appointment comes following the revocation of Ali Wario’s tenure by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection appoints RASHID ECHESA to be the Chairperson of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, effective November 29, 2024,” the notice read.
This marks Echesa’s second state role under President Ruto’s leadership.
In May 2023, Rashid Echesa was appointed chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board.

Silas Jakakimba Joins South Nyanza Sugar Company Board
Prominent lawyer and former advisor to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, has also landed a state role.
He has been appointed as a board member of the South Nyanza Sugar Company, effective November 29, 2024.
The appointment, issued by Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary, replaces Eric Osenya, whose tenure was revoked.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture appoints SILAS JAKAKIMBA as a member of the Board of Directors of South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited, effective November 29, 2024,” the notice stated.
Jakakimba, who previously advised Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, resigned from that role after openly supporting President Ruto.
Both Echesa and Jakakimba are set to serve in their respective positions for three years.
