Photos of Uhuru’s Most Expensive Car He Owned While In High School

The son of founding President says he was brought up like every kid in Gatundu, Kiambu county with limited access to State House.

Uhuru Kenyatta, the incumbent President of Kenya has tried to cut the image of an ordinary citizen, interacting with them freely even when his security detail is not comfortable in such situations.

Were it not for the position he holds, Uhuru would be hanging out with the village and city folks even in the most awkward places.

However, the son of Ngina went to one of the most prestigious school in Kenya.

And while there, barely 18 years of age he owned a classy Mercedes car that he drove to school and regularly sneaked to Karen in it to hand out with his girlfriend and later wife Margaret.

He schooled at St Mary’s school aka Saints from lower classes to high school. When he joined the upper classes in 1970s, he was gifted a car by his father.

It was a cream colour Mercedes Benz 190E model, registration number KWT 185.

As is the tradition at Saints, when you joined the high school, you were allowed by school to drive yourself there.

He was in cloud nine and every student wanted to hang around him and enjoy the comfort of the car.

He drove to school all the way from his Ichaweri village in Gatundu alongside his younger siblings Muhoho and Nyokabi.

Before he owned the car, Uhuru, his brother and sister were driven to school in a Mercedes Benz 280SE bearing the number KPS 810.

They were driven from Gatundu to the school in Muthangari, Westlands by a now retired GSU officer Mugo Karuga.

Charles Ouko who was Uhuru’s classmate at St Mary’s remembers how they felt wonderful milling around the car and entering it.

He says Uhuru and his siblings were not treated with any special privileges and he was outgoing.

It is this car that helped him get in touch with Margaret Gakuo, the daughter of Dr Njuguna Gakuo who was the first Kenyan Managing Director of the Kenya Railways.

Uhuru and Margaret’s brother Maina were classmates. They hanged out and occasionally visited each other and over time Uhuru noticed Margaret who was schooling at St Andrew School in Molo.

He hanged with the likes of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, who is the son of former Cabinet Minister in late President Moi administration.

His other buddy was Gideon Moi, son of late President Daniel arap Moi.

Wanjigi and Margaret were neighbours at Karen. While visiting Wanjigi and Maina Gakuo in his cream Mercedes, Uhuru build a relationship with Margaret and they continued with the affair even after they joined different colleges abroad.

The relationship climaxed with a beautiful wedding at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi in 1989.
