Azimio co-principal Martha Karua has dismissed remarks by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that the coalition now recognises President William Ruto as a legitimate Head of State.
While reacting to a media report quoting Kalonzo as having said the coalition now recognises Ruto, the Narc Kenya leader denied the sentiments.
“Not true,” Karua said as she responded to the reports.
While attending the burial ceremony of Wiper-nominated MCA Constance Mkamburi Mwandawiro in Voi, Taita Taveta county on Saturday, Kalonzo said they now recognise Ruto as the legitimate president.
He said the coalition took the move because of Ruto’s stance to keep the bi-partisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza faction and Azimio going.
“We are going to call everybody to order. And nobody is going to stop these discussions. On that part I must congratulate the President because he has put his foot down anasema mazungumzo iendelee,”Kalonzo said.
“Na kwa sababu ya kuonyesha msimamo huo, ata na sisi tunazidi kumtambua.”
He said the coalition has no problem with the President, other than being shocked by the remarks by his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua who keeps dismissing the talks.
Gachagau has been insisting that the talks will yield no fruits.
“We have no issue with anyone, but we have a problem with some people’s remarks. Like the Deputy President’s remarks at a funeral in Ukambani. He spoke words that shocked the people of Machakos, some were just staring at him in disbelief,” Kalonzo said.
