Martha Karua, running mate for Azimio La Umoja’s One Kenya Coalition Party, revealed that she is thinking about appealing William Ruto’s victory to the East African Court of Justice.
The leader of the Narc Kenya party, Karua, stated on Saturday, September 10, that there are explanations for why she thinks Ruto lost the general election on August 9.
“How come in Nairobi the governor is Kenya Kwanza, but most of the MCAs are Azimio? Most of the presidential votes in Nairobi went to Azimio. These figures don’t add up. I cannot believe that we were defeated,” Karua said.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Karua argued that the nation must comply with the order now that the Supreme Court has rendered its decision because doing otherwise would violate the democratic and rule of law.
“Lakini kuvunjika kwa mwiko sio mwisho wa kupika. (You don’t stop cooking when the cooking breaks). No Kenyan court can prosecute our case at the moment, but we can take it elsewhere to understand whether the Supreme Court,” Karua explained.
She said that the just finished elections had nothing to do with her decision to appeal to the East African Court. Even yet, she followed the same course of action because of fairness after losing to Anne Waiguru in the Kirinyaga governor’s race in 2017.
“The Supreme Court ruled that we have hot-air, but I want to say that a hot-air balloon can take me to the East African Court of Justice. So I am considering whether to travel there on a hot-air balloon so that we can discuss this judgement at length,” Karua said.
She said that her decision was not about her coalition, but it was personal.
“It is my right as a citizen. But for now, because I have time, I will take a break. We also need to wait for the court to give the full judgment in the next 21 days. Still, we don’t agree with their ruling. So we have our reasons that I shall take elsewhere,2 Karua explained.
