A shocking incident has unfolded in Vihiga County after a 22-year-old man allegedly set his parents’ house on fire following a dispute over a missing bag containing his hidden bhang.
According to a Kenyan report, the young man became agitated when he couldn’t find his bag and, after failing to get a satisfactory response from his parents, took drastic action by torching the family home. He has since gone into hiding as authorities launch a manhunt.
Speaking to the media, his distraught parents recounted the ordeal, lamenting the loss of all their belongings in the inferno.
“I have lost everything in the fire, and I am pleading for help because I have nowhere to sleep. Tonight, I will sleep in the cold again. The cold is unbearable, and I don’t even have a blanket,” the father said, visibly shaken by the incident.
The mother, equally devastated, called on the government and well-wishers to assist, saying they had been left with nothing.
“My son started causing trouble and then set the house on fire. I still don’t understand why he did it. I was devastated when I saw everything reduced to ashes. All my clothes are gone—I have nothing to wear. I appeal to the government to help me with a place to stay, even if it’s a small space,” she pleaded.
Local authorities have since launched investigations into the matter, urging the suspect to surrender. Meanwhile, the affected family is appealing for immediate assistance, with well-wishers being encouraged to come to their aid.
As the search for the young man continues, the incident has left villagers in shock, raising concerns over mental health and conflict resolution among the youth.
Authorities have called on the public to report any information that may help in locating the suspect.
