Kenyan comedian Henry Desagu, known for his hilarious skits that once made him a household name, is currently facing a challenging battle with depression and alcoholism.
His family has revealed that his condition has worsened to the extent that he required admission to Mathari Mental Hospital for treatment.
Desagu’s struggles with mental health and addiction have taken a toll on his career, leading to a noticeable decline in his comedy work.

Concerned about Desagu’s well-being, leaders, public figures, and well-wishers have come together to support his treatment and rehabilitation.
Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has taken the lead in organizing a fundraiser to cover the costs of Desagu’s medical care and recovery.
In a heartfelt statement, Kururia emphasized the importance of standing by Desagu during this difficult time:
“We will not watch as this great boychild, Henry Desagu, whose comedy brings laughter to all of us, is brought down by depression and alcoholism. We will pray for his recovery, ensure he gets quality medical attention, and bring back the lively Desagu we all know and love.”
Kururia also acknowledged the efforts of businessman Elijah Njoroge, popularly known as Mofarm JM, who has been supporting Desagu and brought attention to the severity of his condition.

Fundraiser Gains Momentum
The fundraiser, aimed at raising Sh1 million, has seen contributions from various public figures and businesspeople. So far, Sh840,000 has been raised, with a remaining balance of Sh160,000 needed to meet the target.

- Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia: Sh100,000
- Businessman Elijah Njoroge (Mofarm JM): Sh100,000
- Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects, Dennis Itumbi: Sh100,000
- Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria: Sh100,000
- Mugithi singer Samidoh: Sh50,000
- Other well-wishers: Contributions ranging from Sh20,000 to Sh50,000
Kururia has urged more Kenyans to come forward and support Desagu’s recovery, emphasizing the importance of ensuring he receives proper care.
However, he clarified that contributions should be channeled through Karangu Muraya, as he is only coordinating donations from close friends.
