On September 13, President William Ruto took oath of office as Kenya’s fifth president at the Kasarani Stadium.
He was accompanied by his wife – First Lady Rachel Ruto who stepped out in an exquisite dress. The two received heroic cheers at Kasarani.
Rachel held the constitution during the oath-taking.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, in full realisation of the high calling I assume as President of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya;
“That I will obey, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Kenya as by law established and all other laws of the Republic; and that I will protect and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya. So help me God,” Ruto swore.
The swearing-in event was witnessed by Chief Justice Martha Koome, while Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi performed the oath.
The Head of State was then presented with the Kenyan Constitution of 2010 and a sword to symbolize the transfer of authority from one administration to the next by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
