Gachagua’s former classmates praises him for being generous, sharp and humble
Deputy president-elect, Rigathi Gachagua was a sharp student who exhibited a generous personality towards his peers at Kabiruini primary school, Nyeri county.
This is according to Joseph Omumbe, a former classmate, who referred to their school days as exhilarating owing to Gachagua’s generosity.
Joseph, who works as a mason in Mathira, remembered Gachagua as an ordinary student whom they’d play a game of marbles with back in the day. He expressed sheer surprise that the former Mathira MP had climbed ranks to become the country’s second-in-command.
“He was an ordinary child like any other and we never thought he would climb the ranks to such heights. He was a generous person and would always share what he had with us,” Joseph noted.
Another classmate, Mary Maina, who shared a class with Gachagua between 1971 and 1977, noted that the DP-elect was a bright student who topped in the examinations.
“He was a bright learner and fond of Mathematics and English. He would emerge among the top performers,” she noted.
Maina expressed confidence that Gachagua was the right fit for the uphill task due to his skills and attributes.
“The country is fortunate to have elected a hardworking person. So, we are anticipating that he will fulfill the promises he made such as reviving the agricultural sector,” she highlighted.
Gachagua is set to be sworn in as the Deputy president on Tuesday, September 13, as the Kenya Kwanza administration takes over office.
His political career dates back to 1989 when he served as an assistant secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage.
Over the years, he has served as a Personal Assistant to the Head of Public Service, District Officer, president Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant and former Mathira Member of Parliament.
