Adopting a kid requires one to not only have money but also have a big heart and a soft spot for children, traits that only few possess.
In this article, we feature some of the Kenya’s most selfless politicians/celebrities who have adopted destitute kids who are transforming to be successful men and women.
Mike Sonko
In 2014, a sad story of two young kids Gift and Satrine Osinya hit the headlines. This was after their mother died of wounds obtained in an Alshabaab attack and Satrine left with a bullet logged in his head. The former Nairobi governor adopted them and has catered for them since then.
Sonko recently celebrated the tenth birthday of his adopted son Satrine Osinya.
Sonko took a trip down memory lane in his birthday message, recalling how, after their mother was killed in the 2014 Likoni tragedy, he welcomed baby Satrine and his sibling Gift Osinya into his family.
“You came into our family 8 years ago as an angel and a blessing and since then, we felt that our family had become complete. You’re a source of happiness to us and we always feel blessed and lucky having you around healthy and happy despite of what happened to you on the 22nd March-2014 when you lost your lovely mum to a terror attack and escaped with a life-threatening injury,” Sonko said in part.
“We thank God for healing and protecting you and your elder brother who rescued you from a hail of bullets which were being sprayed by the terrorists inside the church.
“As you turn 10 today, I want to wish you a happy birthday baby Satrine Osinya. Remember I love you so much and I want the best for you as you grow older,” Sonko stated.
William Ruto
The DP said he was touched by the girl’s story after she was abandoned but later rescued by nuns who took her to Ippolita Children’s Home five years ago.
“The story of Nadia who was found buried, her body partly decomposing and abandoned as as newborn and has been under the care of sisters at Madre Ippolata Children’s Home touched my heart. I have named her Cherono, after my mother and made her part of my family,” he said.
Uhuru Kenyatta
During the 2013 music festivals in statehouse, David Owira had president Uhuru Kenyatta in stitches. Then then young boy was living in Fuata nyayo Slums in South B.
Owira came to the limelight after he performed his hilarious poem titled ‘Otongolo times’ during the finals that were held at Statehouse in Mombasa county.
The poem left the had of state Uhuru Kenyatta along along and as a way of showing gratitude, president Uhuru Kenyatta adopted him and made him one of his sons
Owira sat for his KCSE and scored a clean C+ and was admitted to one of the leading universities in Kenya. At multimedia University he studied Film and Animation and completed his course work almost 2 years ago.
A look at his social media pages reveals that he has been working on personal projects and is currently working in one of the film firms in the country.
Bahati
The Kenyan gospel musician has four children, two daughters and two sons, at a young age of only 27 years old.
Other than having two baby mamas, Diana and Yvette, Bahati has also adopted a son who is the oldest among the four.
The adopted son, Morgan, has grown and well kept now.
Caroline Mutoko
Caroline Mutoko has been on the map for years well know for her strong opinions and feminism.She has however managed to keep a tight lid on her private life.
It is no secret though that the radio queen has adopted two kids, a beautiful daughter and a son with whom she rarely posts or talks about.
Shaffie Weru
Shaffie Weru aka the Reverend is a renowned Kenyan entertainer, MC, and radio presenter.
Being a womanizer, many may not believe that Shaffie actually has four kids. Two of his own, Milan and Nia, and two kids that he has adopted.
Akothee
Akothee is not new to charity work. Despite having a foundation where she helps hundreds of Kenyans, she has also helped educate needy children.
Akothee has also adopted a disabled man who she helped get medical care as well as buying him a prosthetic hip to replace his wheel chair.
