Former Kameme FM host Wambui wa Muturi claimed that Media Max’s decision to terminate him in 2013 turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Wambui described the traumatic experience of quitting Kameme FM after working at the Kijabe street-based station for six years during an interview with Kikuyu Diaspora Television (KDtv) presented by Jeremy Damaris.
Wambui was one of the 222 workers who were let go in 2013. She said that when she first received a letter from the media company, she was thrilled and assumed it was a promotion, but she was rudely surprised.
“During that period, I used to think my phone was broken because I did not receive any calls. Other media houses were listing the top ten journalists fired from Media Max and I was trending on Social media,” she said.
Wambui later said that her termination from Media Max was not an error; rather, it was a strategy to propel her to her current position. She claimed that it didn’t affect her anymore when her pals didn’t call her during the difficult times.
Following the loss of her position, the renowned journalist is currently employed by Inooro TV as the host of a health and medical section known as Dagitari.
She admitted to Jeremy that she tried her hand at a variety of occupations outside the media during the time before she was hired by Inooro TV. Notably, she was a teller in the banking sector and the transportation sector.
She claims that her prior experience enabled her to serve as the host of the medical TV program. She had initially gone in for a gospel program audition but was switched to the health show.
“I had first auditioned for a gospel show at Inooro TV and everything was set. We had already done the promo video when Kanze Dena asked me to stick around after work,” she explained.
Wambui was overjoyed by the news and proceeded to thank her producer and other station staff members. She was, however, equally stunned by the abrupt change in the programming.
She underlined that accepting the new chance was mostly due to her pious mother. Wambui concluded by saying that she is anticipating greater things.
