Nairobi woman representative Esther Passaris has criticized women from Mount Kenya for not voting for Azimio’s Martha Karua.
According to preliminary election results, William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance had significant support from Central Kenya, but Raila struggled to win 20 percent of some of the region’s most populous counties.
Passaris expressed disappointment that this was the greatest opportunity for local women to turn out in huge numbers to support Martha by voting for Raila in a statement on Wednesday, August 9.
“There was a low turnout of voters in Mt Kenya. This was the best opportunity for Mt Kenya ladies to shine and embrace Martha Karua by voting Raila,” she said.
Adding:
“They have let the tribe of women down because it was expected that they could come out and embrace this opportunity to have a woman as a deputy president. It was a historic opportunity, I think some of them wish they would have voted.”
