Police teargas Former CJ Willy Mutunga at Central Police Station

On Saturday, August 8, 2023, the Central Police Station CPS was teargassed while the former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was inside.

The former CJ and others reportedly went to urge the release of individuals who had been detained during the Saba Saba Maandamano, according to information that reached the K47 digital news team.

According to reports, the Chief Justice was struck by one of the canisters.

Along with senior attorney Khaminwa, Mutunga, the board chair of Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI), demanded the unconditional release of everyone imprisoned yesterday during the march.

“Our Board Chair @WMutunga is joining fellow legends including Senior Counsel Khaminwa asking for an unconditional release of colleagues detained for exercising their constitutional rights.”

Adding ”Is this a democratic or autocratic government @NPSOfficial_KE ? #Release Them Now.”

The Muslims For Human Rights questioned Ruto’s Gov’t saying “AUTOCRACY OR DEMOCRACY?”

“Imagine a government that teargases a Chief Justice Emeritus, a senior counsel, & other reputable colleagues in our society.”

“What do you think they will do to you & me who are considered nothing? We are far from reaching the dreams of our fore furthers.”
