Bright Girl from Poor Family Who Scored A in KCSE officially joins US College
A bright and driven young woman from a modest background in Meru county has achieved new heights in her hopes and aspirations.
Lynn Nyawira Kimathi set off on an incredible journey to study in Masseuchettes in the United States of America.
Nyawira’s incredible journey began in 2017 with a fantastic result in her KCPE exams, where she got an outstanding 434 marks, the highest ever in Abogeta West ward to date.
Then, on Saturday, April 23, 2021, former Education Cabinet Secretary, the late George Magoha, released the much-anticipated 2021 KCSE results, keeping parents and guardians in the dark.
Among those anxiously awaiting the results were Lynn Nyawira’s mother and her guardian, Meru Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kiogoria Matae, who sponsored her high school education.
Nyawira continued to excel academically, scoring an impressive A with 82 points in the 2021 KCSE exams, making her family and community incredibly proud.
Matae, who had taken on the role of guardian and mentor for Nyawira, had awarded her a fully paid four-year scholarship following her exceptional performance in the KCPE exams.
He has supported her educational journey since 2017 when he learned about her potential and the challenges she faced due to her family’s financial constraints.
Updating his followers on Nyawira’s accomplishments, Matae expressed his joy and pride as she embarked on her journey to pursue higher education in the United States.
He took to his Facebook page to share the exciting news, revealing that Nyawira would be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Data Science at Smith College, Massachusetts, USA, commencing her studies on Monday, August 28.
In his Facebook post, Matae wrote,
“Last evening, I joined the friends and family of Lynn Nyawira from Bubui as we bid her farewell at JKIA. Lynn will commence her BSC in Data Science on Monday at Smith College Massachusetts, USA,” Matae wrote.
“I have walked the career journey with Lynn for the last 6 years when she scored 434 marks in KCSE (the highest ever in Abogeta West) and an A at Chogoria Girls last year. Changing lives one by one,” he added.
Matae’s journey with Nyawira began in 2017 when he visited her family following the announcement of her outstanding KCPE results.
At that time, Nyawira was facing the possibility of being unable to continue her education due to financial constraints.
She had two siblings in high school, both with outstanding fee balances, and her mother was struggling to cover their expenses.
In a heartfelt pledge to support her, Matae committed to funding Nyawira’s secondary education through the Ward Development Fund, while the Kiraitu Murungi Foundation offered assistance with her shopping expenses.
