Update on Uhuru Sagana Meeting: Only vernacular languages allowed

0

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting with Mt Kenya leaders is currently ongoing at the State Lodge in Sagana.

The meeting attracting over 4000 guests, mainly local community and opinion leaders, was out of bounds for the media.

Guests are also said to have been barred from carrying phones and other recording electronics which were left at the search area. A few pro-government bloggers were exempted and have been informing the public on the developments in the meeting.

Speakers are reported to have been under instructions to use the vernacular languages of Gikuyu, Kiembu, and Kimeru while addressing the gathering.

Those who spoke were highly vetted leaders who are supportive of President Kenyatta and the handshake with ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

Among the development issues discussed include support for the coffee and tea sectors that are the backbone of the Mt Kenya region. Jubilee activist Zack Kinuthia also spoke on the need for youth-friendly policies in government.

Politics, however, did not escape the day as leaders sought to assure President Kenyatta that he remained the region’s kingpin.

Nyangarua Governor Francis Kimemia, in an apparent swipe at Deputy President William Ruto, called on President Kenyatta to start launching projects by himself – to prevent other opportunists from taking undue credit.

Ruto has in the past been accused by a number of leaders from the region of launching non-existsent projects or launching without coordination with other government officials.

Former Molo MP Njenga Mungai is also said to have spoken and criticized the so-called Tanga Tanga squad allied to Ruto.

Mungai said the Gema community in the Rift Valley was best protected by President Kenyatta and urged politicians to stop making comments that suggested the diaspora community was under siege.

Allan Omondi, the fourth year Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) who was assaulted by police officers has spoken out for the first time since the incident.

Allan, who spoke to reporters on Thursday night, revealed that he has recorded a statement of the assault at the Juja Police Station.

He also revealed how events unfolded, from his side of things, leading to the terrifying beating.

‘Utumishi kwa wote’ Do JKUAT students deserve this kind of force?

“They just profiled me based on my appearance, because as they were beating me they were saying things like I must be from Mungiki because of my dreadlocks. I had bloodshot eyes from the teargas an they said that I must have been smoking bhang.

“They beat me up for around 10 minutes before they threw me at the back of their Land Cruiser. I though that was the end of the beating but they continued. I was handcuffed to the top rails of the vehicle and the beating was worse since I was now defenseless,” Allan narrated.

The fourth year student further narrated that the officers had assured him that they would “finish him” right inside the police vehicle even before he could be booked into the police station.

Allan stated that the video clip recorded by his two friends is the only thing that deterred their plan to kill him.

“When they saw that video they started cooperating and decided they would take me to the police station. I will only feel safe to go back to school when I’m sure that some legal action will be taken against the four of them,” he stated.

They have, however, all been suspended as the police Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) conducts investigations.

Sarah Wairimu, widow of murdered Dutch Billionaire Tob Cohen, has called on the court to compel her to collect a list of personal belongings which are at her husband’s Sh400 million mansion.

The Kisturu home has been cordoned off as a crime scene since the dutch man’s body was in September discovered at a septic tank in the compound.

Wairimu, through her lawyer Philip Murgor compiled a list of the various personal items which she needed with immediate effect while requesting that some of the moveable items be kept in DCI’s custody.

Her lists includes her alcoholic drinks which she says are stored in kitchen, her office, and in daughter’s bedroom.

She also lists her handbags, golfing equipment, foodstuffs, clothes, grooming tools, wine glasses, plates, dishes, cups, and cutlery items.

Other items in the list are electronics specifically, a Briggs and Straton lawn mower, pieces of artwork, assorted furniture, and a Honda generator.

Wairimu’s petition further seeks to compel the Director of Criminal Investigations to release two dogs and her personal vehicle (reg no. KBW 171G) which are in state custody.

She accuses Kinoti of irregularly confiscating her valuable rottweiler dogs, named Major and Snow – which are from the rare Labrador and Doberman breeds respectively.

The latest application is one of the many twists and turns in the case where Wairimu and a Gilgil businessman are accused of murdering the late Cohen.

Wairimu’s legal team has taken the state head on – filing a number of applications against the prosecution and against DCI George Kinoti who led investigations into Cohen’s murder.

Murgor has accused Kinoti of committing contempt of court and went as far as requesting the top detective’s call and text history to prove his allegations.

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday morning took to Twitter to respond to pro-handshake members of parliament (MPs) who called for his resignation.

The MPs had on Wednesday accused the DP of sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Building Bridges Initiative report, which is yet to be made public.

“The President should have powers to sack the Deputy President because sometimes the DP can be a ‘crook’. We can’t have a deputy that is sabotaging the President all the time. I hope this was captured in the BBI report,” Borabu MP Ben Momanyi stated.

Three police officers who brutalized a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student have been identified as George Wathania, Jonathan Kibet and Boniface Muthama.

The names were released on Wednesday just moments after Police spokesman Charles Owino had revealed that the National Police Service (NPS) had opted to withhold their names out of sensitivity for the officers’ families.

The police officers were on Tuesday suspended as the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) conducts investigations on the incident.

Police Spokesperson Charles Owino had earlier revealed why the names and pictures of officers caught on video brutalizing JKUAT student will not be released.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday morning, Mr Owino said that they were protecting the families of the officers from trauma.

Mr Owino mentioned that the names and pictures of the officers will come out once they are charged in a court of law.

If your child is in school and the father is revealed to have beat up somebody the other children will mock the child over and over,” Mr Owino said.
