Faith Wangui’s mutilated body was found on Saturday, November 16
  • Faith Wangu’s mutilated body was discovered dumped in a thicket at the Menengai Crater area, Nakuru on Saturday, November 16. Her left arm and left breast were chopped off. Her face was doused in what is believed to be acid.

Joseph Mwangi, the victim’s brother, told Citizen TV that John Muchiri had repeatedly abused his sister over the past 6 years until she finally decided to leave Muchiri in late 2018.

“Their marriage has not been straight for long, the guy was a threat. For the last six years that they have been together, the marriage was hell. Once when she gave birth and the child was two weeks old, he beat her up badly,” the distraught brother narrated.

Bahati police commander Jacinta Wangechi told the standard that the body was discovered by a group of herders grazing their livestock around the crime scene on Saturday.

According to a report by Citizen TV on Sunday night, Faith left Muranga to take her two young daughters to visit their aunt who lives in Nakuru. The kids were going to stay with the aunt for the December holidays.

She was supposed to drop the children off on Saturday, November 9, and return home the next day.

However, she changed plans at the last minute and decided to visit her estranged husband, Joseph Muchiri, who also lives in Nakuru in an attempt to solve their marital problems.

“On that Sunday at around 10 pm, Faith texted me, telling me that they are going to a rock-in club called Menegai Resort” the sister narrated to Citizen TV. The family was alarmed when her phone was suddenly switched off.

The report indicated that she informed a childhood friend of the plan to meet her lover at a popular entertainment joint in Nakuru Town once here two children aged 2 and 6 were safe with their aunt.

Police in Nakuru immediately launched a manhunt for Muchiri, the estranged lover, said to be on the run.

Her death comes in the wake of the brutal murder of Joyce Symobua and her two children allegedly committed by a Kenya Defence Forces Major identified as Peter Mugure based at the Nanyuki army barracks.

Bodies of the three were found buried in a shallow grave within Thingithu Estate in Nanyuki, after the arrest of Major Peter Mugure on Saturday, November 16.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has sensationally narrated how he was humiliated and threatened by EACC detectives investigating him on claims of corruption and escaping from prison.

Sonko narrated that on two occasions he presented himself for interrogation at the Integrity Centre where he claimed he was treated like a prisoner.

He claimed that the search involved detectives wearing gloves and forcing him to unzip his pants for a thorough search.

I presented himself at EACC and cooperated. They removed my shoes. Told me to unzip and they searched my private parts for cameras and other things. Specs, mobile phones and belts were all taken away. The second time, it was the same thing with threats and a lot of intimidation.”

“I was treated like a prisoner even though I was only a suspect. By the third time, ata wao walijua enough is enough. Nliwaambia hakuna mtu ataguza sehemu zangu sa siri. Walikuwa wanavaa gloves wanaingiza vidole wakiangalia kama uko na cameras. Hizo mavidole nlizigonga mateke nikawaambia sitakubali hii ushenzi tena (I told them no one would touch my private parts. They would wear gloves and insert their fingers into your private parts looking for recording devices. I hit the inspectors’ hands and told them I would no longer tolerate their nonsense),” Sonko said during an interview with a local radio station.

He insisted that he would not be intimidated by the EACC investigation which is reported to be getting final touches.

“Kesi kwangu ni kama parte after parte. Ni kama celebration (Cases are something of a celebration for me. It is a party after party,” he added.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON MY LIFE.

Over the past couple of months, I have been on the receiving end of hateful abuse and indeed threats against my life for my outspoken brand of politics.

I am known for speaking out in defense of ordinary people without fear or favor. This seems to be rubbing some people in high places the wrong way. Regardless, I have done my duty to the people fearlessly and will continue to do so until the Lord calls me home.

In recent weeks, this vitriol has been getting increasingly worse and over the last few days, I can report that I am a targeted man. I have been consistently followed during the day and at night by a saloon vehicle that I now know with four occupants. Yesterday, these men made an attempt on my life!

I have reported this attempt today at Parliament Police Station under OB21/17/11/2019 at 1728HRS. I call upon the Inspector General of Police to immediately launch investigations into this issue and bring those behind these assassination attempts to book.

In closing, I will not stop. I shall not stop. Death comes to us all and I know mine will eventually come. I am not afraid of dying for my beliefs and in service to my people. Tialala!” read Babu Owino’s post.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Major Peter Mugure had been ordered by the court to pay Ksh75,000 for the upkeep of his children.

The man suspected to have killed his estranged wife and two children is believed to have plotted the murders after the court ordered the Ksh75,000 be deducted from his salary each month.

Although the army man contested that the two were not his children, DNA results indicated that Mugure had sired the children.

Police revealed that Mugure had paid the money for only three months but he had been complaining to friends about the court arrangement.

Sleuths are also following leads that Major Mugure may have first drugged his estranged wife Joyce Syombua and their children Shanice Maua and Prince Michael, before strangling them.

Mugure had asked Syombua to bring their children to Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki so that they could catch up before their daughter’s birthday on November 1.

Syombua’s mother, Elizabeth Malombe, gave a glimpse into their troubled union, claiming that Mugure’s relatives were opposed to their marriage.

Her close friend, Farrizanah Katengu, told journalists that Mugure had not seen his children for a long time.

Farrizanah said that Mugure had once denied siring Michael, which prompted the mother to seek legal intervention for child support.

A DNA test showed that he was the biological father of Shanice and Prince Michael. He was ordered to pay for the children’s food and school fees,” said Farrizanah.

“Please take not that the names and pictures of HELB loan beneficiaries who have defaulted repayment of the loan from 1975 to date shall be published in the leading newspapers after expiry of 30 days from the date of this notice and thereafter legal action may ensue against each defaulter as stipulated in the HELB act,” the notice read in part.

HELB explained that the notorious defaulters had failed to respond to various attempts by the loans board to reach them.

“Some beneficiaries who are in default have not responded to previous communication addressed to them yet the funds received from loan repayment are used to support the current needy students therefore sustained default hinders funding of other deserving Kenyan youth.

“HELB wishes to notify the general public and loan defaulters that the HELB student loan is a government debt which should be repaid as per the terms and conditions on which it was advanced,” the notice elaborated.

Fresh details have emerged on Joyce Syombua whose body was recovered along with those of her two children, Shanice (10) and Prince Michael (5) who were allegedly murdered by her estranged lover, Major Peter Mugure.

Elizabeth Maua Malombe, the mother to the deceased revealed that a week before Joyce made the journey to Nanyuki on 25 October 2019, she had won a child maintenance case in a Nairobi court.

“Syombua (Joyce) had sued Mugure for child upkeep after he said he couldn’t support the children because he was not sure that the kids were sired by him. One week to October 25, the judge ruled that Mugure should provide for the children after DNA test results on the kids revealed that he was their biological father,” stated Maua.

It is after the victory in court that Mugure reached ot to the deceased, requesting to see the children and even sent them money for fare.

“The court also ruled that Mugure should be granted regular access to the children. And in a bid to abide by that order, my daughter planned to visit Mugure with the children on October 25.” Narrated Maua.

Despite her mother warning her about the planned visit and urging her to cancel it, Joyce left Nairobi for Nanyuki on 25 October 2019, never to return again as her body was recovered three weeks later.

Warning about the visit

“I, however, warned her that my intuition was not for the visit, and that Mugure should come to Kayole, Nairobi and see the children; that was on October 24. My daughter, however, told me that nothing bad would happen to them, and that Mugure had even sent her bus-fare to visit him in Nanyuki. I told her: ‘Okay, go ahead with your plan, but know that I am against it,” recounted Maua.

On Saturday (16 Nov 2019), a day after Peter Mugure was arrested, police in Laikipia recovered three bodies suspected to be those of Joyce Syombua and her two children, who went missing on October 26.

Laikipia County Criminal Investigation lead officer, Peter Mwau Muinde confirmed the incident, adding that DNA tests are yet to be conducted on the three to ascertain their identities.

“Our investigations led us to this scene after several informers spoke to us,” said Muinde.

“At around 4:30pm [Saturday], we recovered three bodies which we suspect belong to Joyce Syombua and her children Shanice Maua and Prince Michael. We will conduct DNA tests on the bodies to ascertain their identities,” said Muinde.

“For waiting wombs, pregnancy announcements can be serious triggers. I have lived it – how you just want to be so happy for others but somehow your own grief and struggle overwhelms you. My journey is a miracle whose details I still haven’t shared. One day I will. But as God continues to write my story and perfect what He began, let me share my heart with you. President Uhuru Kenyatta, on 15 Nov 2019 came clean on a number of issues that annoy him and addressed critical issues facing his Jubilee party and Kenya at large during a meeting with leaders drawn fromMount Kenya region.

The meeting which was crafted in secret with invitations sent at the eleventh hour was a moment of reflection as the president sought to put his house in order and for the first time admitted that not all is well in the region.

During the meeting, the president revealed his displeasure with the constant nagging and pushing by regional leaders to endorse a successor.

“I am being pushed everyday as if the elections are in the next two months. I sometimes wonder if my community is keen to bury me while I am still alive,” he said in Gikuyu.

A number of Jubilee party leaders in the Tangatanga outfit allied to DP Ruto have on numerous occassions demanded that the President should publicly declare his political stand on whether he will support DP Ruto.

The President maintained that he intends to serve until his last day in office, adding that God knows the leader Kenya will get.

The unfolding events in Kenya’s political scene characterized with heated political statements have not escaped the attention of the President.

He expressed his disapppointment, stating that some of the statements leave him wondering why certain leaders were elected in the first place.

“I hear a lot of insults and political remarks from some of your leaders here and I wonder what they were elected to accomplish,” said Uhuru.

Deputy President William Rut has been leading in the attack, with most of his statements targetting former Prime minister Raila Odinga.

With more than two years to the next general elections, 2022 succession politics are already making headlines and dominating discussions.

The president expressed his displeasure at the early campaigns that have seen a host of Jubilee party MPs accompany Deputy President William Ruto on rallies across the country.
