Babu Owino Defends Wife From Police Who Tried to Harassing Her in Court

Since his capture on Tuesday, July 18, Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, has been detained by police.

Prior to Azimio La Umoja of the One Kenya Coalition Party, the MP was apprehended and arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

After being later removed from the police station, his wife, Fridah Muthoni Ongili, made desperate attempts to find him.

After spending hours looking, Fridah disclosed that she had finally found the congressman in Mwea at Wanguru Police Station, where there was tight security.

Fridah claimed that before learning the MP was in Kirinyaga, she had searched unsuccessfully through a number of Nairobi police stations.

“All I have been doing today (Wednesday) is searching for him. I started at the DCI headquarters. I was then directed to the airport he was not there. I went to Muthaiga, Gigiri, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, and Embakasi police stations, but he was not there…Finally I was given information that he is here (Wanguru),” she said.

The vocal MP was presented at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Thursday, July 20 afternoon, where the prosecution charged him with subversion alongside six others.

As they were trying to leave the court, Muthoni moved close to the dock to walk alongside her husband, who was to be taken to hospital.

Her path was, however, blocked by a police officer in plain clothes who was determined to push her away from Babu.

A furious Babu turned to the police officer, telling him off for his actions before others around them told the officer to leave her.

Babu stopped walking, insisting that Muthoni must walk ahead of him as they left the courtroom under heavy police presence.
