After finding that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supports Ford Kenya’s Ken Lusaka for the Bungoma governorship, one applicant for the job has requested the return of Sh500,000 he paid as nomination costs to the party.
Zachariah Baraza hoped to unseat Governor Wycliffe Wangamati on a UDA ticket in the August General Election, but was surprised to hear that UDA had other intentions for him.
Mr Lusaka was backed by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under a Kenya Kwanza deal.
His destiny appears to have been sealed at a meeting with UDA top executives on Monday, when he was ordered to put his goals on hold in order to make way for Mr Lusaka.
As a result, Mr Baraza has given UDA seven days to refund the cash, claiming that he plans to utilize the money to renovate crumbling schools across Bungoma’s nine constituencies, he said.
The unhappy politician revealed his intention to run as an independent candidate for governor.
Five UDA-allied MPs in Bungoma have pledged to support Mr Lusaka, prompting the politician’s protests.
Politicians from Kenya Kwanza, led by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, said they had also agreed in Kakamega for former senator Boni Khalwale, who was running for governor on a UDA ticket, to drop out in favor of ANC’s Cleophas Malala.
Mr Baraza, on the other hand, reminded Deputy President William Ruto of his vow that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which he leads, would not issue straight tickets and would instead let ‘hustlers’ to choose their candidates.
