A Nairobi man has refuted the accusations that he stole his girlfriend’s laptop and shoes before giving them to his other lover.
In his arraignment before the Makadara Law Courts on Thursday, Ryan Lusalishi admitted to robbing Elizabeth Okumu on November 7 and November 8 in Nairobi of a laptop valued Ksh.25,000, a bag, and a pair of shoes.
Ms. Okumu testified before Principal Magistrate Gathogo Sogomo that when she got home from work, certain things had been moved.
She claimed that upon closer examination she discovered that the laptop, a pair of shoes, a backpack, and an ATM card were all missing.
Okumu said in court that she had gotten an SMS on the same day informing her of a failed transaction due to a faulty PIN and believed that someone was attempting to use her lost ATM card.
When her attempts to find out whether her house had been entered by a stranger by asking her neighbors and the caretaker for information proved fruitless, she came to the conclusion that it was her lover and reported the incident to the police.
During the course of the inquiry, Lusalishi’s other girlfriend—who is also a witness in the case—told police that he returned home with the things and gave her the shoes, even though they were the wrong size.
He was arrested and the bag and the shoes were found in his house.
Lusalishi is also facing an additional charge of conveying suspected stolen property contrary to Section 323 of the Penal Code, for being in possession of the bag and shoes.
He was released on a surety bond of Ksh.50,000 and an alternative cash bail of Ksh.30,000.
The matter will be mentioned on January 31 next year ahead of the hearing on May 22.
