Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has revealed that he has a Bachelor of Science in Management degree which he acquired from Team University in Uganda; a claim that is yet to be verified.
“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” reads Sakaja said.
However, the university is yet to make any public statement regarding the same.
For many people, this is the first time to hear about such an institution.
So, what is in the Team University?
Team University is a Ugandan Private University licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), mandated to award Undergraduate Degrees (Bachelors), Post Graduate Degrees (Masters and PhDs), Post Graduate Diplomas as well as Vocational Courses and training for Professional qualifications.
According to its website, Team claims to offer courses which are highly competitive and prestigious bench marked to international standards.
“This gives our students a password to confront the challenges of the world of work as job creators but not job seekers.”
History
Three Certified Public Accountants/founders in the names of Mr. Tushabomwe David, Mr. Balikuddembe Joseph Kigongo and Mr. Rugaba Sam Kindyomunda, started Team Business College(TBC) in 2001 majorly offering training in accounting professional courses especially ACCA, at that time renting space from Bat Valley Primary School. They later moved to CAROL House(formerly NITCO House).
An idea was conceived then of setting up a specialist University in 2006 using the experience acquired after establishing and operating TBC. A letter of interim Authority to set up and operate a private Specialists University under the name Team University (as provided for in section 96(i) of the universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended) was granted on 18th December 2007.
In the process, Team University was born as the first private Degree awarding institution licensed by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in Uganda in October 2010, the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) being the only Public other Degree Awarding Institute.
