Babu Owino and Gaucho finally charged in Milimani Law Court

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino alias Paul Ongili has been charged with conspiracy to commit chaos or subversive activities.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary subversiveness is a behaviour or activities that try to destroy or damage something, especially an established political system.

Babu was charged alongside self-styled ghetto president Calvin Gaucho with five others.

They have appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and denied the charge.

Earlier, one of Babu Owino’s lawyers Ndegwa Njiru said that they had been denied access to the MP who was being detained at the Nairobi Area police station.

Ndegwa who spoke outside the police station said that they had also been denied access to the police station.

He noted the police have also not told Babu why they have him arrested, despite being in police custody for over 24 hours.

“I can confirm that my client Babu Owino is held at the police area in Nairobi. The police have refused to allow us access to the police station. They have blocked us even as lawyers,” Ndegwa said.

“We have no right to see our client. He has no right to be represented even in that particular police station. They have completely refused and have not told him why he’s being arrested.”

According to his other lawyer Duncan Okatch, who spoke to Citizen Digital, the lawmaker faces charges of unlawful assembly and subversion, in regards to his role in the ongoing opposition-led anti-government protests.
