Raila Odinga promises to lower grades for trainee teachers to Grade E

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has promised to lower grades for trainee teachers to Grade E.

This, according to the ODM leader, will alleviate the severe lack of tutors in the northern counties.

ODM leader Raila Odinga addressing a news conference

Speaking at Habaswein Township, Wajir County, Mr. Odinga pledged that his administration would employ affirmative action to guarantee that the region has enough teachers.

“Because of the lack of teachers due to insecurity, we will ensure the youth here can go to teacher training schools even with Grade E,” he remarked.

The administration previously opposed efforts to decrease entry standards for teachers from disadvantaged regions. Because of the unrest, foreign teachers have left Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa.

The Former Prime Minister said training of more local tutors would help bridge the gap.

“From September, all trained teachers and who are yet to be employed shall all be hired. Insecurity has cost this region but affirmative action shall help correct all that,” he said.

Along with promising free education from kindergarten through university, Mr. Odinga, who was joined by his running mate Martha Karua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, made the same pledge.

“After their education, our youths will get quality jobs; not pushing wheelbarrows,” he stated.
