Raila Odinga hires 30 powerful lawyers to battle Ruto’s Victory at Supreme Court

Azimio La Umoja’s Raila Odinga said the 2022 presidential election results declared by the country’s electoral chairman were “null and void.”

Speaking one day after Deputy President William Ruto was declared the winner, Odinga told a crowd in Nairobi:

“What we saw yesterday was a travesty and a blatant disregard for the constitution and the laws of Kenya by (Wafula) Chebukati the minority of IEBC commissioners”.

This was Odinga’s first appearance since Kenya’s electoral commission chairman on Monday declared Ruto the winner with almost 50.5% of the votes.

Reports indicate that the ODM leader has gathered a team of formidable lawyers for a titanic Supreme Court fight to overturn William Ruto’s triumph.

The team consists of more than 30 brilliant lawyers, divided into three categories: senior counsels, seasoned attorneys, and other advocates competent in creating and presenting persuasive legal arguments.

Some of the attorneys were at the center of the 2017 lawsuit in which the Supreme Court declared President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election invalid.

A handful of former Uhuru lawyers will be a part of Raila’s team.

Numerous actors, including Kiragu Kimani, Tom Macharia, Desterio Oyatsi, Waweru Gatonye, and others are anticipated to play major roles. They played a significant role in the BBI case as well.

The team is being managed by Paul Mwangi, a longtime legal advisor to Raila, and Jackson Awele, one of the top attorneys in the 2017 case.
